Question: What was your inspiration to the shadowy conspiratorial organization that the book The Shop is termed for?
J. Carson Black: There has been speculation--especially in thrillers--that secretive organizations have existed from the federal government--that there are black bag operations, often carried in other countries.
Human nature being what it really is, it’s easy for me to picture people in power in the highest level planning all types of operations. Power corrupts, and if the resources are available, We've no doubt that something like The Shop could exist. All it will take can be those who are powerful enough to place it in place, and also the operations could go in terms of their imaginations would let them go. Throughout history, powerful people make enormous mistakes, and possess corrupted chance to their particular needs. I could picture the rich and powerful--the those who can command just about anything--coming up while using most hair-brained of schemes--and getting away with it. She’s thorough and cares with what she actually is doing. She cares regarding the young man whose death is in the center of her investigation. The son is gay, and she doesn’t want his death to look unremarked. She wants justice for him.
